Inter Press Service (IPS) was set up in 1964 as a non-profit international cooperative of journalists. It is an international, not-for-profit association of professional journalists and others in the field of communications. It has no national or political base and pursues the objectives of balanced geographical, ethnic and gender representation. The Association is responsible for the online Inter Press Service News Agency, but also engages in many other projects. For example they have published a training manual for the media on how to report on HIV/AIDS from a gender and rights perspective.

Formed in 1986 by a group of journalists, the Nepal Forum of Environmental Journalists (NEFEJ) has completed 19 years of continuous work in the spheres of environmental protection and sustainable development. NEFEJ now undertakes various programs to try to effect positive changes in the environmental field and other social areas. Nefej is a membership organization. Nepal journalists, either working in print, radio or TV, are awarded full membership. Nepali experts or others who are involved in environmental conservation can become associate members of the Forum
