Architecture & Development (A&D)

Architecture & Development (A&D), which aims for international solidarity, is a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) founded in 1997 in France. The objective is to reinforce the competences of the architects as actors of the development process, while emphasizing their social role as citizens in helping the vulnerable and divested populations, of the North and the South.

A&D also contributes to the creation of a network of expertise and capacity building in several fields of intervention like - the problem of appropriate and environmentally responsive architecture, linking of the urban and rural development, response to the humanitarian and the post-emergency need of disasters and the conservation of our built and cultural heritage.

Thanks to a mulitcultural approach and a team of multi-disciplinary people, A&D has involved itself in the framework of international solidarity through the organization of events, training programmes, sensibilization and the organization of exchanges in North / South and South/ South countries and the implementation of development projects through a system of cooperation and partnerships.

Centre for Education and Documentation (CED)

Besides providing development information, CED sees its institutional role in the long term as developing and bringing into currency open democratic information systems. The end objective is to ensure that such systems become part of the socialisation process in civil society and an inalienable instrument which enable thinking and democratic exposure to issues and concerns of the marginalised sections of society, development, human rights and self-assertion.

Besides this general role of an institution of civil society, CED also has a specific role as one of the ’contending’ associations in the same civil society, as after all it represents, as an NGO, specific interests, that of the poor and marginalised sections of society. In this mission, it locates itself within the NGO context and is basically a support and advocacy-support organisation.

Europe Solidaire Sans Frontières (ESSF)

ESSF is an association for international solidarity. Covering a wide range of topics, our website offers militant information on many struggles and campaigns, as well as in-depth articles, elements of debates, documents of varied types. We would like it to become a useful tool for all those who are fighting for a world of solidarity.

Our website was opened publicly at the end of September 2005, with about 450 articles, though still unevenly distributed by topics or countries. New documents will be regularly added: updates on current events, introduction of new topics, complementary articles, and also early-written texts that restitute the memory and history of movements, struggles and debates.

Focus on the Global South

Focus on the Global South (Focus) is a non-governmental organisation with twenty staff working in Thailand, the Philippines and India. Focus was established in Bangkok in 1995 and is affiliated with the Chulalongkorn University Social Research Institute.

Focus combines policy research, advocacy, activism and grassroots capacity building in order to generate critical analysis and encourage debates on national and international policies related to corporate-led globalisation, neo-liberalism and militarisation.

Focus’s overall goals are to : dismantle oppressive economic and political structures and institutions; to create liberating structures and institutions; to promote demilitarisation and peace-building, instead of conflict. These three goals are brought together in the paradigm of deglobalisation. This term describes the transformation of the global economy from one centred around the needs of transnational corporations to one that focuses on the needs of people, communities and nations and in which the capacities of local and national economies are strengthened.
